The first branch of Aldi in Wokingham town will open in June this year, making it the first business in the regenerated Elms Field to confirm a launch date.
The store is one of a number of businesses that will open in the new development – Everyman Cinemas will run a boutique picture house showing the latest films, while Premier Inn will bring a budget hotel to the town. A range of restaurants and leisure facilities are expected to take the other units, but none have been announced yet.
In March last year, the first branch of Aldi opened in the borough.
Olympian Etienne Stott and Chase from PAW Patrol were on hand to open the branch in Suttons Business Park in Earley.
When that branch opened, the first 30 shoppers received a complimentary bag full of fruit and vegetables from Aldi’s Super 6 range as part of the store’s Get Set to Eat Fresh initiative.
Aldi is famous for its Special Buys: every Thursday and Sunday it presents a selection of different products that are available only while stocks last. These can be lifestyle items such as clothing or DIY items or it could be special items of food such as different flavours of crisps.
The new Wokingham Aldi store is launching a recruitment drive to find deputy store managers and store assistants. These will be flexible contracts offering from 15 to 30 hours a week for assistants to 20-35 hours a week for the deputy store managers.
The German chain said in a leaflet that it aims to create “happy, productive teams” and that staff are “properly rewarded for [their] hard work”.
“As you may have heard, we do pay very well,” the leaflet adds. “However, we also give our people the support and training to succeed.”
