RESIDENTS have been left outraged after three cherry trees in a Wokingham town centre park were damaged by vandals over the weekend.
The trees, which had been planted in Howard Palmer Gardens in 2013, were discovered by a council worker on Saturday morning with their branches ripped off and scattered around the park.
A spokesperson for Wokingham Town Council, which undertook the refurbishment of the park in 2013/14 said they were ‘disappointed’ by the destruction of the trees which were enjoyed by local residents, workers and children throughout the day.
The council is now urging anyone who has any information regarding the vandalism to come forward.
Wokingham Town Mayor, Cllr Peter Lucey echoed the sentiment, saying: “I was saddened to see the recent damage to the trees in Howard Palmer Gardens.
“Replacement trees will costs between £2,000 and £2,500.
“I’d like to urge anyone who has information regarding the damage to come forward, in confidence.”
