BUNGLING thieves are thought to have caused more than 130 homes to be cut off from their telephone lines last week.
Arborfield Green residents reported a loss of service – including internet, wifi and phone lines – on Wednesday last week after underground cables were broken in the Biggs Lane area.
Engineers from BT Openreach were called out to the area to patch up the lost services and most homes should have had their services restored.
A BT spokesman told The Wokingham Paper: “We have suffered malicious cuts to underground cabling in an apparent attempted theft which has been reported to the Police. We have had around 130 reported faults from properties that have been affected by this incident.
“Openreach engineers have been onsite to bring in a replacement section of cable and work is now underway to connect residents back onto this new cabling.
“Engineers will be working around the clock to get this work completed as quickly as possible.
“People will start to see their services restored as this work progresses.”
