FAMILY and friends along with Deputy Mayor, Cllr Bill Soane, joined in the celebrations at Greensleeves Care Home to celebrate the 100th birthday of Beatrice Hunter.
They included Beatrice’s son, Malcolm, his wife, Elfi, and their sons Stephen and Owen, along with Stephen’s wife, Davina and their children (Great grandchildren to Beatrice) Heidi and Isabella.
Originally from Twickenham, Beatrice has been at Greensleeves since 2017. Married to Donald, aged 20, shortly after the Second World War broke out, Beatrice made goggles for airmen collecting materials on her bicycle.
After the war, Beatrice travelled to Spain where Donald worked in the film industry on construction and special effects. She also has wonderful memories of Cornwall when she was a child, travelling around in the sidecar of her dad’s motorbike.
Asked what is the secret of a long life, a smiling Beatrice replied: “You’ve got to have a good sense of humour.
“People say I make then laugh, I am good at talking,
I love singing and I always look my best.”
