We’ve lost a few games this season despite playing well. Last Saturday, we got the points we deserved after a game which had the fans on the edge of their seats until the final penalty shot.
Not that the game started so well. We were two down within three minutes as Hull’s Player Coach Jason Hewitt made clear how Hull had earned a reputation for fast, attacking hockey. We had gone into the game with only one import and without Josh Smith and Vanya Antonov.
Young Josh Ealey-Newman was making his debut for the Bees. How would we respond?
The atmosphere in the Hive built as the team battled hard to get back on equal terms. I switched goal tenders and Danny Milton was applauded on to the ice, to join his brother Zack. We had a single goal lead going into the third period.
Hull scored twice more and the clock was ticking down. You can imagine how an excited crowd celebrated the equalising goal with seven seconds to go.
The teams were still even after overtime. Now we had the drama of penalties. Roman Malinik scored three times, in three different ways and was congratulated by his team mates as they came on to the ice after a thrilling evening of hockey.
We’ve got some great matches coming up, as we visit Basingstoke on Saturday and entertain Swindon on Sunday. We’ll be joined by our new import. All I can ask of the guys is to compete hard for the full 60 minutes.
They will do that and you will be swarming to the Hive.
