Featured in the paper every Thursday, Bracknell Bees head coach Doug Sheppard gives latest views on the club’s season on and off the ice in an exclusive column.
Last weekend was a painful reminder of how Hockey can bring us highs and lows.
We’ve been winning at home and struggling on the road. When we travelled to Milton Keynes on Saturday, we were able to experience the high of tying the game in the last minute and then scoring the winning goal. It was great to see the team battling to the end for those 2 away points.
We came to earth with a crash on Sunday, losing 9 -2 on home ice to local rivals, Basingstoke Bison.
There’s a lot we need to pay attention to this week in training. Most of the goals we conceded were from power plays so it is important to improve our special teams.
We’ve got two home fixtures this weekend, the first against the current League leaders, Telford. That will be a great opportunity for us to get back on track.
There was a young man on the ice last Saturday who has experienced lots of highs and lows in his young life. We were delighted to celebrate his 100 days free from cancer when he took part in the face-off. As a Club, we have been able to support Zachary White’s progress. We’re proud that he has chosen to be such a devoted fan of Bracknell Bees.
