THE COMPOST for your garden might just feel familiar this year – it could well be made out of your lawn’s grass cuttings.
After last year’s initial stock sold out, a locally-made peat-free compost is now back on sale.
Call re3grow, it is made from at least 90% of recycled garden waste sourced from Bracknell Forest, Reading and Wokingham boroughs and is available from the re3 recycling centres in Reading and Bracknell.
It’s made by re3, the company that manages waste disposal for the councils and the company said that this is a perfect example of turning waste into a valuable resource: each year, re3 processes around 25,000 tonnes of garden waste, from kerbside collections or people visiting the recycling centres.
Re3 then screens the cuttings, lets it mature and then bags it up for sale.
In a joint statement, Cllr Mrs Dorothy Hayes MBE, Bracknell Forest Council’s Executive Member for Environment and Chairman of the re3 Joint Waste Disposal Board, Cllr Sophia James, Reading Borough Council’s Lead Councillor for Neighbourhoods & Communities and Cllr John Halsall, Wokingham Borough Council’s Executive Member for Environment, Leisure and Libraries, said: “We are thrilled that re3grow compost is back on sale and hoping that it will be equally popular as last year.
“We’re very grateful for all positive feedback received last year and hope that re3grow will help residents to fully appreciate the recycling process by turning what would have been waste into a valuable resource whilst helping to divert waste from landfill.”
re3grow is available for residents to purchase at both Recycling Centres – Longshot Lane, Bracknell and Smallmead, Reading, directly from the Meet and Greet teams, and costs £3.50 per 40L bag or as a multi-deal offer of 3 bags for £10.
