ANDREW WILLIS will today begin his bid for glory at the Olympic Games.
The Bracknell and Wokingham Swimming Club member will be competing in the Men’s 200m breaststroke, which is due to start at 5.50pm (GMT).
Willis, 25, has been drawn in heat number four and will swim in lane five over in Rio.
The Frimley-born athlete is up against Carlos Claverie (Venezuela), Matti Mattsson (Finland), Ippei Watanabe (Japan), Marco Koch (Germany), Dmitriy Balandin (Kazakhstan), Giedrius Titenis (Lithuania) and Jarred Crous (South Africa).
Hungary’s Daniel Gyurta is the defending champion and his quest to become a double Olympic gold medal winner in this discipline begins in heat three.
The 16 fastest swimmers will progress to the semi-finals, which take place later in the day.
Commonwealth Games bronze medalist Willis reached the final of this event back in 2012, finishing eighth but setting a personal best time along the way.
The Games are being broadcast on the BBC and through its interactive services.
