Binfield manager Roger Herridge was pleased with his team’s response to claim a 4-2 victory on Monday evening after they tasted their first league defeat last weekend.
The Moles were beaten for the first time in the Hellenic Premier Division this season after a late goal from league leaders Westfields denied Binfield a point having levelled the game from a two-goal deficit.
“The build-up to the Westfields game wasn’t great, there’s always players who on the day aren’t available but on the day we had six players, arguably all of whom would have started who weren’t available, so that was always going to make the task tougher,” said Herridge.
“Things went from bad to worse because we conceded a very soft goal after just seven minutes.
“They started really well in the first 20 minutes and were the better team but after that we came into the game. Asa had a great chance but their keeper made a brilliant save and just as we looked likely to draw level, they scored a second.
“It’s easy to say when you’ve conceded, but I don’t think many in the ground other than the linesman didn’t think their player was offside which was disappointing
Goals from Asa Povey and Josh Helmore drew the Moles level in a second-half fight back, but a late goal from Westfields snatched the points away from them.
“We talked about improving in a few areas when we got to the changing rooms at half time and second half we were superb,” continued Herridge.
“We got one back and then equalised and at that point they were hanging on. We were positive and tried to look for a winner and ultimately they caught us on the break, and their lad cut in from the left and swung one into the top corner. It was a good goal, but disappointing for us.
Herridge praised his sides resilience and fitness as they made amends on Monday evening with a 4-2 triumph over Ardley United to return to second in the table, just one point from the top.
“We’ve got a real togetherness and team spirit. We’re a fit side and very few teams will live with us in terms of the intensity we play at- it’s a real high tempo game with good energy and pace.
“The Westfield manager was very complimentary to us on Saturday about how fit we were and I’m hearing all the time about our intensity. Sometimes it can cost you if you commit too many forward but on Monday we were a joy to watch.
“The scoreline flattered them, we were miles the better team on the night and it was important to pick up the three points which has already started to make us feel a bit better about ourselves.
“We look like scoring a lot of goals at the moment with Sean Moore, Asa Povey who has been a revelation, he’s so quick. Josh Helmore has been nothing short of sensational in the last few games.
“They all look like they’re all loving their football and scoring goals to boot so long may that continue.
“We train Thursday, no game on Saturday and then play Chalvey in the league cup on Monday night. We certainly won’t underestimate them but we will look to make some changes.”
