A NURSE who works at Broadmoor has been presented with a special prize at a national award ceremony.
On Friday, November 23, Adam Cramp picked up the title Apprentice of the Year at the Our Health Heroes competition.
Mr Cramp was one of 14 people picked for the Nursing Degree Apprenticeship programme in April this year by the West London NHS Trust.
And his dedication to his role was spotted by judges making their decisions as to who to present the honour to.
The panel were looking for a range of attributes including being an effective colleague and part of a team; putting learning into place; and being caring and compassionate to service users. Other criteria included being a strong role model for the organisation and an ambassador for apprenticeships.
Mr Cramp was delighted to be a winner.
He said: “It’s amazing to have won this award and I have to admit my feet have not touched the ground. Everyone at the Trust has been fantastic and incredibly supportive.
“The Nursing Degree Apprenticeship training scheme has been excellent and has given me invaluable skills. I would recommend it to anyone.”
And the Trust is equally pleased.
Alison Webster, the Trust’s Assistant Director of Workforce, said: “We are all absolutely delighted for Adam. He is an incredible colleague and an ambassador for the Nursing Degree Apprenticeship scheme, which has been hugely successful for us.”
In all, 70 staff applied for this year’s Nursing Degree Apprenticeship group at West London NHS Trust and the vast majority of the 56 staff who were unsuccessful accessed other training – boosting their skills and professional development.
The Trust said that feedback from this year’s intake has been hugely positive and all are progressing well.
It is now planning for the next intake, which will start in April 2019, with the aim of apprentices like Mr Cramp, who will be in their second year, to act as buddies to the new apprentices.
