Wokingham’s Carnival Pool will shut on Tuesday for two weeks to enable repair works to take place.
While the water will be out of bounds, Wokingham Borough Council said that all other leisure centre facilities, including the gym and fitness classes will operate as normal during this time.
The pool is to be demolished as part of the regeneration works and be replaced with new facilities that will include a library and an events hall.
Graham Ebers, director of corporate services and deputy chief executive, said: “I’d like to apologise to our customers for the inconvenience caused to our swimmers.
“We will be working with our contractors to ensure that the works are completed as quickly as possible. We would like to thank customers in advance for their patience and understanding during this time.
“We haven’t taken this decision lightly. The Carnival Pool is 25 years old and these vital repairs are needed now to maintain the life of the swimming pool until we can starting building the new leisure centre and pool on the current site from 2020.”
The council’s new leisure operator Places for People has been in touch with customers directly regarding their membership fee for the period the pool is closed.
