A busy Wokingham road became a river last night as flash flooding hit the borough. And the Met Office are warning that more could be on its way today.
Cars were forced on to the pavements to get round the instant waterway.
As we reported last night, the torrential rain storm around 7pm caused flooding in Priest Avenue. Now it turns out that an area by Molly Millars Lane was also affected.
The rain was a surprise as none had been forecast – The Met Office had expected storms to travel a different way across the country but the weather changed course and came to Wokingham instead.
Reader Kim Sawyer spotted the flooding in Molly Millars Lane, sending over this picture.
She said: “This was taken yesterday evening by Lidl car park, down Ashville Way. Cars had to mount the pavement to get through.”
Thankfully the flooding here isn’t as bad that that seen in London earlier this week, when a man drove his car into a two-metre deep flood.
The weather forecast for today is currently cloudy but dry until around 5pm when there may be some light showers. However, the Met Office has issued a weather warning for the borough, saying that there could be sudden downpours leading to more flash flooding.
The warning said: “Scattered, heavy downpours will develop today, turning thundery in places. Whilst many places will miss the worst, please be aware of the risk of localised surface water flooding.”
Sunday – the day of street parties galore – is heavy showers in the afternoon. The Met Office is 80% confident that there will be rain around 1pm, while other showers are on a 60% probability.
