VIRTUALLY every youngster helped by a local charity has made significant improvements with their reading levels.
That’s the verdict of ABC To Read, which offers one-to-one mentors to primary school-aged children, and is highlighted in its annual report.
It says that 99% of the pupils it has helped have improved in their reading accuracy and grown in confidence, while 98% have enhanced their comprehension.
Schools work with the charity to identify which youngsters need help.
Marcia Rowlinson, ABC to Read CEO, said: “In our 15th year, I am thrilled to see such positive reports from the schools we work with. These incredible results are testament to the life-changing impact that one-to-one mentoring can have on our youngsters’ futures and I’m honoured to be a part of that.”
The charity is looking for volunteers to come forward and wishes to work with more schools.
