Wokingham Conservatives have elected a new leader – Cllr Charlotte Haitham Taylor will take over from Cllr Keith Baker after the vote on Monday, May 8. She will also become the new leader of the council.
The party held a ballot when it met ahead of the new council year starting later this month. Sources tell us that the vote was very close.
Wokingham Conservatives office manager Fraser McFarland confirmed the news in a tweet that read: “Congratulations to Charlotte Haitham Taylor the new Conservative group leader on Wokingham Borough Council”.

Cllr Baker had been leader of the party since June 2014, when he took over from Cllr David Lee.
Over the past year, there have been a number of resignations including Cllr Ian Pittock who crossed the floor to join the Liberal Democrats and Cllr Gary Cowan who resigned the whip last November and then quit the party to become an independent candidate.
