Curry night at Wokingham’s Tamarind Tree raises £2,000 for Meningitis Research Foundation

WHEN most people go to an Indian restaurant, they hope to enjoy a feast. But for diners at a Wokingham town centre restaurant, they had fundraising on their mind.

And organisers expectations were shattered when the event raised twice as much as they’d hoped for.

On Monday, June 3, nearly 60 people gathered in The Tamarind Tree in Peach Street for the special event, hosted by supporters of the Meningitis Research Foundation.

During the evening, they enjoyed a two-course meal prepared by Koush Miah’s team, had a chance to try their hand at a raffle and bid in a silent auction.

Organiser Sue Baggott was delighted with the results.

She said: “We were hoping to raise close to £1,000, but raised close to £2,000. 57 people attended.

“Raffle prizes were donated by Alpine Retreat, Gail’s Bakery and The Leafy Elephant.

“Our Silent Auction had lots donated by Koush at the Tamarind Tree, Max Brown of MXB Active, Georgie Redding-Lang, dance teacher and DDMix instructor and Juliette at Rococo Jewellery.

“And a special thanks to Jays Printers for getting the cheque ready at the last minute after we were let down.”

She added: “I am the local Ambassador for the Meningitis Research Foundation and, as a family, we have been involved with the charity for the past 19 years, following the recovery of our then four-year-old son from Meningitis.

“He is now completing a Masters in Psychology.”
