THE CLEANING fairy will be out in Wokingham next week, with a deep clean of the town’s Market Place starting on Monday.
All of the newly laid York stone in Wokingham town centre will be cleaned with jet-wash machines next week — until Saturday, December 7.
The Monday after, a daily cleaning service will begin to keep the stone sparkling.
The work is being jointly funded by Wokingham Town Council and Wokingham Borough Council.
Earlier in the year, the town had a deep clean. Since then, the condition of the stone has been monitored, with a daily cleaning routine now starting.
The cleaning will take place on Market Place, Broad and Denmark Streets to include the loading and disabled parking bays.
The contract has been awarded to Premier Support Services Group.
The deep clean next week will be carried out in sections. Some areas of paving will be closed off —between 6am and midday — and will be planned to keep disruption to a minimum.
The regular cleaning afterwards will cover small sections of
the area each
day of the week, excluding Sundays.
This will happen between 6am and 10am. Motorists will be glad to hear that none of the work will require road closures.
Both Councils say they are delighted that Market Place will be looking it best for Christmas and beyond now that this agreement in place.
They say they are looking forward to seeing the town at its finest and hope all those who come in to do their Christmas shopping will enjoy it as well.
