PLANS are being made for a much-loved village show taking place later this month.
The Hurst Horticultural and Home Industries Show will be held at the village hall on Saturday, August 18.
The hunt is on for massive marrows to scary scarecrows and everything in between. Categories include flowers, vegetables, fruit, home-baking, preserves, homemade wine, photography, art and handcrafts.
And there are also special classes for children.
It’s not just Hurst villagers who enter the show either: organisers receive applications from people who live in Wokingham, Crowthorne, Arborfield, Winnersh, Earley, Reading, Woodley, Twyford and Maidenhead as well.
A spokesperson for the show said: “This much-loved and increasing popular family friendly traditional village show captures something about English village life which still exists today – it is terrific summer afternoon event.”
A show schedule is currently being delivered to every household in the village.
Changes this year include reducing the number of scarecrow classes to just one that is open to all ages. Budding musicians can also enter 30 seconds of their own compositions.
The show itself will open a little earlier this year, from 1pm, and include a jazz band, cream teas, a barbecue, plant stalls, a wine and beer tent, a raffle and numerous craft shows.
