CARETAKER from a primary school in Wokingham has braved the shave to raise money for a children’s charity.
Dave Spink, who works at Evendons Primary School, in Evendons Lane, recently discovered that he needed chemotherapy so chose to publicly have his beard and hair shaved off during a school assembly in return for donations to the Alexander Devine Children’s Hospice.
Samantha Alleyne, a parent from the school and stylist from local hair salon Zappas, had the honour of shaving Dave’s hair and beard off, while the children were shown photos of the newly-completed hospice.
Thanks to the generosity of Evendons parents, and Dave’s family and friends, he managed to raise an incredible £1,101 for the hospice, which is located just outside Maidenhead.
Clare Dando, Chair of the Wokingham Fundraising Group of Alexander Devine, said: “We were so delighted to receive this incredible amount of money and touched that Dave thought of our charity and the children we help at this difficult time for him. We wish him all the best with his treatment and hope he is back to full strength as soon as possible.”
