THE family of the woman who died in a car accident in Woodley last week have released a moving tribute to her.
Mary Parkes, 84, died after being struck by a car in the Loddon Vale Practice car park on Wednesday (28) evening.
Her family released a statement today which said that Mary and her husband Larry had lived in the area for 40 years.
The statement said: “A tragic accident occurred on Wednesday, 28 September at 5.30pm in the car park of Loddon Vale Surgery.
“Mary Parkes, long-time resident of Woodley, sadly passed away despite the assistance and endeavours of the staff and doctors of the surgery.
“Mary is survived by her loving family; her husband, four children and their families.
“Mary and Larry have been resident here in Reading for 40 years and were well known in the local community for their attendance at Woodley Information for Senior Education, and Mary’s attendance at the Woodley Airfield Church.
“Mary and Larry met at a dance in Dunfermline near Kelty where she was born. Larry was stationed locally in Rosyth as a Naval Artificer and Mary was a nursery school teacher in Cowdenbeath.
“Following their marriage, the couple moved house many times during Larry’s Navy career, before settling happily here in Reading.
“Despite being in increasingly poor health, Mary said on Tuesday that she still felt like the 16-year-old nursery school teacher she had been, and felt mystified at having aged!
“Family was always and ever the most important thing to Mary, and her family are united today in sorrow at her tragic loss.”
