A FINCHAMPSTEAD woman is raising cash for a cancer charity in memory of her mother by undertaking a mammoth cycle between her home and Hayling Island.
Jane Holt and her friend Natalie Kiley will take on the 50-mile cycle this Sunday in aid of Macmillan Cancer Support.
Jane’s Mum, Maureen, was diagnosed with Multiple Myeloma in May 2015, and sadly passed away in November. Maureen was a dedicated supporter of Macmillan, and held many coffee mornings, raising thousands of pounds for the charity over the years.
Jane said: “At the beginning of this year I felt I needed to do something positive in Mums’ memory and decided it had to be for Macmillan.
“Myself and friend, Natalie have been training for months now, riding 20 miles most Sundays, to get fit for the big ride ahead of us! I chose Hayling Island as I have many fond memories of holidays and days out with Mum there.”
Jane and Natalie are hoping to reach Hayling Island by around 3pm on Sunday, after a 7am start.
Jane has already raised over £1000 for Macmillan to date, which will help to support people living with and beyond cancer in the Berkshire area.
Around two million people across the UK are living with the consequences of a cancer diagnosis. Macmillan provides medical, emotional, financial and practical help for cancer patients, from specialist cancer nurses to grants to cancer patients with money problems.
Natalie Hill, Fundraising Manager for Macmillan in East Berkshire said: “Sadly the number of people being diagnosed with cancer is increasing every year and that means Macmillan’s support for people living with cancer is in more demand than ever.
“No one should have to face cancer alone and it’s only through the fantastic support we get from the public that we can be there for people cancer and their family when they need us most.”
