A DRIVER saw his commute to work earlier this morning end prematurely when his car became engulfed by fire.
The vehicle, a Vauxhall, was being driven along the A327 Reading Road in Eversley Cross, not too far away from The Tally Ho pub and heading in the direction of Reading, when it encountered a problem just before 6am.
The driver managed to get the vehicle to the side of the road before raising the alarm, with a crew from Wokingham Fire Station sent to to the scene.
Using hose reels and breathing apparatus, the pump spent around 30 minutes dousing the flames and making the car safe.
It is not yet known if the vehicle has been declared a write-off, although it was not looking too good with the front engine compartment and near side bumper all badly damaged as a result of the incident.
It was awaiting recovery when the crew stood down.
Although not hurt, the driver was said to have been left shaken by what had happened.
