THE first acts for this year’s TwyFest have been announced: and they are some of the biggest names in music.
Early bird tickets have already gone on sale for the festival, which runs across Twyford from Saturday, May 26 through to Sunday, June 3.
The 10-day event fuses a mixture of community events with comedy, music and band days. There will also be a range of sporting events to take part in.
On Saturday, June 2, there will be a music day at The Duke of Wellington pub in Twyford’s High Street.
The pub will erect a marquee in its gardens to act as a stage for the event, which starts at 1pm.
Headlining the day will be indie legends Pop Will Eat Itself, a group that had a string of hits in the 1990s. They are in constant demand and haven’t stopped touring. Recent sets have been performed in the United States and Australia.
Their main support act will be The Complete Stone Roses, who will perform the group’s greatest hits.
Local bands also get a look-in: Wise Monkeys, who are very active on the local music scene, will be joined by nine-piece ska band The Skangsters and the Juke Box Junkies, who perform everything from 90s rock to indie, grunge and current music.
There will also be a host of other acts playing outside the main stage.
Tickets cost £24.50 for the event, with proceeds going towards Help For Heroes.
The second event that has been announced is a return for The Wurzels.
They will perform on Friday, June 1 at the pub’s cider evening.
They were smash-hit when they performed at TwyFest back in 2016 preparing to sing some of their greatest hits.
There will also be at least four different West Country brewed ciders on tap for the fun evening.
Organisers said that tickets for these two dates are selling fast.
A spokesperson said: “We have an amazing line up in store for you this year from top Comedy Acts through to our ever popular Music and band Days. There’s a host of sports events going on and something for everyone over the 10 days.”
