MUSICIANS behind the number one hit Build Me Up Buttercup will be performing as one of the headline acts that will be performing at this year’s Wokingham Festival.
The annual event held over the last weekend in August, is a celebration of food, drink, family activities and live music and will once again return to Cantley Park in Wokingham while the town centre regeneration works continue.
The New Foundations will bring some Motown sound to the Friday night opening party on August 24.
And the six-piece band features Clem Curtis and Colin Young, who have had worldwide success with a string of hits including Baby Now I’ve Found You, Back On My Feet Again and the aforementioned Buttercup record.
They will play all the favourite hits of The Foundations plus an extensive repertoire of 60s, Soul and Motown classics.
The following evening, there will be a return visit from Never The Bride. The group wowed the crowds in 2016 and their Saturday night set will give festival goers a chance to hear why Old Grey Whistle Test host Whispering Bob Harris thinks they are one of the best touring bands in the UK.
The group have been performing for more than 25 years and are headed up by Nikki Lamborn on vocals and Catherine Feeney on keyboard, guitar and vocals.
And bringing the three-day festival to a close on Sunday, August 26 will be one of the longest-running soul and funk bands in the country, UNIKQUE.
The eight-piece group will perform a mixture of soul funk and disco classics by Chaka Khan, Sister Sledge, Cheryl Lynn, Patti Labelle, Tina Turner, Chic, Teena Marie, James Brown, The Brothers Johnson.
More bands will be announced over the coming weeks, as plans progress.
The beer festival will once again be back and organised by the team from Twyford Beer Festival and raising funds for Orchid, the male cancer charity. There will also be a range of street food stalls, and a chance to meet local food producers offering everything from craft beers to vegetarian specialities.
Children will also be catered for with a host of special activities to enjoy in a special family area.
Organiser Stan Hetherington said: “Every year we try and make the festival even better than the last. Our headliners are all brilliant acts that show our determination to put on the very best possible event for Wokingham.
“We’ve got more exciting announcements to come over the next few months, but right now we encourage you to set the dates aside in your diary and come and enjoy the party.”
