A HEAVY police presence remains in place this evening on Nine Mile Ride in Wokingham Without as they investigate a murder.
Forensic officers have been called to the scene, near Pine Ridge, after the body of man was found there shortly after 2pm.
At the time he was found he was injured, and emergency services provided medical treatment at the scene. However, Thames Valley Police said that he didn’t respond and he died on the road.
Nine Mile Ride has been closed to traffic at its junction with Heathlands Road and the Queensmere roundabout to allow the police to conduct their enquiries.
It is not expected to reopen this evening.
And a lorry that attempted to turn around on the Nine Mile Ride between Old Wokingham Road and Heathlands Road was stuck in a ditch.
The area where the body was found is outside a mobile home park and opposite a row of houses. However neighbours on the scene this evening knew nothing of the incident, having only seen the police response when they returned home from work.
Detective Superintendent Ian Hunter, Head of the Major Crime unit at Thames Valley Police, said: “We are in the very early stages of enquiries and have now launched a murder investigation.
“I would like to hear from anyone who saw anything unusual or suspicious in Nine Mile Ride near the New Acres Caravan Site and Pineridge Park Homes at around 2pm on Monday, November 5 to contact police. If you have any details which you think may assist our investigation, please come forward and speak to officers.
“We will keep the community updated once further information is available.”
