IF YOU go down to the woods tomorrow, you’re in for a big surprise. No, not bears on a picnic, but Santas on the run.
The annual Thames Hospice Santa Dash is taking place in Swinley Forest, offering a collection of red-suited and white-bearded Santas of all ages taking part in a 5k or 10k route.
Participants can run or walk as they ho ho go around the course.
And in the process, they’ll be raising funds for Thames Hospice, which provides expert care for people living with life-limiting illnesses in East Berkshire and South Buckinghamshire.
Although online registration is now closed for the event on Sunday, November 25, it is possible to turn up on the day to take part, so you can enjoy the Santa Dash at Swinley and still have time to visit the Wokingham Winter Carnival.
The team is asking participants to start the festive season in style by donning a Santa suit and dashing around Swinley Forest to raise vital funds for your local Hospice, so it can continue providing vital palliative and end-of-life care throughout the Christmas period.
Alison Evans, head of community and events fundraising, said: “Our Santa Dash event is always so popular. It is an incredibly fun day out for the whole family; get in the festive spirit, sign up now and help us create the biggest sea of Santas in Berkshire.”
The dash is a family friendly event open to all abilities – and dogs are welcome.
Participants choose to run or walk 5k, or run a more challenging 10k route. Online entry costs £20 for adults and £5 for children – under-fives go free. On the day registration is open from 8.30am to 9.30am on Sunday morning.
Registration includes a Santa suit for adults, and reindeer antlers and flashing noses for children. Every participant, whether you’re a Santa or a reindeer, will receive a medal and refreshments when they cross the finish line.
