AN EARLEY resident has been honoured for his service during the Second World War.
Henry Taggart –known as Harry –is 93 and has been awarded with the Legion d’Honneur for his actions on D Day and beyond.
The medal is the highest possible honour awarded by the French government.
Harry served in Bomber Command from 1943 to 1945 and then in Transport Command until 1947 he flew in Halifaxes 2s, 3s and 5s then in B17s ( Flying Fortress) from RAF Leeming in Yorkshire with 6th Group 247 Squadron Royal Canadian Air Force, although he is originally Scottish.
Due to failing eyesight Harry did not want the fuss of an official presentation.
He now lives in Earley with his wife Phyl and is a member of the Arborfield Royal British Legion.
