A LOCAL firm of funeral directors that is just about to open a new branch in Woodley recently hosted a special conference for its peers.
Seventy visitors from across the world, including the United States and Australia, came to Berkshire for the Selected Independent Funeral Homes European Conference 2019.
AB Walker, which is based in Reading and also has a branch in Wokingham, welcomed Reading West MP Alok Sharma as one of the guests speakers for the conference, which had a theme of leadership.
It wasn’t all work: delegates were able to enjoy visits to Windsor Castle, The Leander Club in Henley, and the Royal Military Academy in Sandhurst.
AB Walker’s director, Julian Walker, was delighted with how the event went.
In a statement, he said: “AB Walker was proud to host the conference and proud to welcome visitors to the county of Berkshire and the surrounding areas, and to showcase our business and our team to our peers.
“We are hugely grateful to individuals and organisations for their help in delivering this experience.”
And Mr Walker, who heads up the family-owned business, said it was beneficial to share knowledge with other funeral directors from around the world.
The conference included comparing funeral practices in the United States, Australia and the UK and discussing what can be learnt from each other.
Membership of Selected Independent Funeral Homes is by invitation only and is extended to worthy funeral homes after careful evaluation of their character, professional ability and reputation.
