ALL things bright and beautiful took over Sonning over the bank holiday weekend thanks to the bi-annual Scarecrow festival.
Thousands of visitors descended on the village to inspect the colourful creations made by the villagers.
Attractions included two Donald Trumps – one of which visitors could knock off his perch – a jungle scene and a guest appearance by Lord Buckethead, who challenged Theresa May in last year’s General Election.
Other scarecrows were based on Strictly Come Dancing, Wallace and Gromit, the 70th anniversary of the NHS, and a dinosaur.
In Pearson Hall, members of the 1st Sonning Scouts served refreshments and visitors could buy artworks from members of the Sonning Art Group.
St Andrew’s Church was also open to visitors, while ice cream was available from stop me and buy one carts and The Ivy at Sonning served takeaway curries. On the Sunday, a classic car show was held.
Visitors could vote for their favourite scarecrow – the results had yet to be counted as we went to press.
One of the organisers, Barbara Carr, told The Wokingham Paper: “It was extremely successful and we were extremely lucky with the weather. All the rain forecast didn’t appear.
“We printed 5,000 programmes and the vast majority of these sold.
“It’s been very good and certainly the whole village was heaving. We are very happy with the result.”
