GROWERS in Wokingham proved that there is still a hint of summer left at the California Gardeners’ Club Summer Show last weekend.
A record number of entries from the club’s members showed off their finest flora at the show at the California Ratepayers’ Hall, in Finchampstead Road, and were awarded prizes for categories including Best Rose, Best Pot Plant and Best Vegetable Exhibit.
The children’s category also went down very well, with young gardeners’ displaying highly imaginative and colourful exhibits.
The day was rounded off with a raffle and a tombola which attracted some very spirited bidding
Club secretary Lynn Potts said: “The show was very successful. There were record numbers of entries, and the flowers and pot plants were as spectacular as ever.
“The floral art exhibits were highly colourful and inventive, and in the domestic section all the entries, and especially the cakes, looked absolutely delicious.
“There is a lot of skill and knowledge in the club to create such a wealth of exhibits.”
Manager of the Me2 Club, Tess Eagles said: “Thank you to the South Berkshire Singers. The wonderful donation of £1200 will have a positive impact on the lives of our Me2 Club young people and their families.
“The money will go towards training volunteers who will then be matched with one of our young people so they are able to attend a mainstream activity of their choice.”
