THOSE will long memories will hark back to the days of just three television channels (we know) and ITV actually showing decent Saturday night television.
One of the game shows was hosted by Lennie Bennett and was called Punchlines.
The aim of the game was match the joke with the pay-off line in order to win a modest prize.
However, the eight celebrities played musical chairs and there was also a red herring in the mix. Well, it was the early 80s and you had to be there.
Thankfully, there’s an easier way to find some of the world’s greatest punchlines and it’s at South Street arts centre on Friday night.
Comic Glenn Wool is hoping you’ll be there for Wool’s Gold II.
There’s no outtakes of Rod Hull and Emu. No chances of winning a doll of Lennie Bennett (some will say thank goodness), just a night of comedy gold.
Glenn is now comfortably in his forties and a new dad.
He’s taken the opportunity not to look back in anger, but in laughter.
The show sees Glenn delves into his back catalogue of material spanning 25 years to perform some of his more subversive routines in this intelligent comedy best-of.
Does he still agree with his early points of view or has he finally grown up?
Glenn has performed all over the world since the mid-nineties, and you may have seen him on 8 Out of 10 Cats, Never Mind the Buzzcocks and Russell Howard’s Good News. But not on Punchlines. He was only six or seven when it was broadcast.
