A supporter of Wokingham’s foodbank has stepped in to help the charity after it was hit by a theft earlier this week.
On Monday we reported that at some point between Saturday evening and Monday morning its Rose Street offices were burgled, with a laptop stolen.
David Atkinson, who runs the Foodbank, said: “The thieves broke a small window at the front of the premises, and entered by removing the window lock and opening the casement window.
“It’s really disappointing that we would be targeted when we are here trying to help those who are struggling to feed themselves.”
Since then one of the charity’s corporate supporters has stepped in to offer a new computer to replace the one that was stolen.
Mr Atkinson said in a Facebook post: “It was disappointing to find we had been broken to into the weekend and our laptop had been taken. But all of your wonderful support has been fantastic, and we thank you for your care and concern.
“One of our corporate donors has found us a replacement, and possibly a spare. Thank you Qlik, it is really appreciated.”
The foodbank has launched an appeal for Christmas goodies to be given in its parcels.
Speaking before the break in Mr Atkinson said: “We’d love donations of Christmas crackers, mince pies, Christmas puddings, tinned hams and sausages, Christmas biscuit boxes, crackers and selection boxes. These are all the things that we can give to someone to make a Christmas lunch.
“We don’t need any Advent calendars though.”
Donations can be left in most of Wokingham’s churches, in supermarkets including Tesco and Waitrose and at the Rose Street branch.
