Sandhurst Military Academy
Nineteen Inner Wheelers, partners and friends visited Sandhurst Military Academy recently.
We learnt about the history of Sandhurst – how it came into being and how it functions. They take students from all over the world who study and train at Sandhurst for 12 months.
We saw the parade ground and 2 beautiful chapels as well as several rooms and a museum.
Our tour included a light lunch after which we were probably needing a little siesta. However our guides kept the information coming which was all really interesting.
The weather was kind to us and helped make it a worthwhile and fascinating visit which everyone seemed to enjoy. Recommended.
Our new president
Valerie Coughlan, our 2018/19 President has just completed her year of office and handed over to Jackie Bignell at our June meeting at Sonning Golf Club. A visit to Highclere Castle has been arranged instead of our usual August meeting and we have places available.
We are a very active group of like-minded ladies who enjoy helping in the local community, socialising and raising money for local and national charities. We meet on the third Thursday of each month so please visit our website www.innerwheelrme.org to find out more about us.
Our fashion show
A huge thank you to the 240 local people who attended our recent Inner Wheel of Reading Maiden Erlegh Fashion Show, many having seen the event publicised in The Wokingham Paper. Thanks also to Leighton Park School for the venue, John Lewis & Partners for their enthusiasm presenting our models, Clarins for make up advice and to our Inner Wheel ladies and Rotarians for all their hard work.
We have made a real difference to the funds of our chosen charities Motor Neurone Disease Association and Arthritis UK.
As well as organising our fashion show we have recently visited Mapledurham Mill and Church with a cream tea, walked at Dinton Pastures with lunch at the Wheelwrights Arms. The performance of ‘Ruddigore’ at the Oakwood Theatre, Woodley was enjoyed and also a trip to the theatre in Oxford to see ‘Calendar Girls’.
Twice a month we volunteer at Lakeside Residential Home, Whitenights Road, Reading assisting staff and activities co-ordinator Sarah. The residents enjoy our fun ideas and company.
The Inner Wheel Club of Reading Maiden Erlegh is a group of like-minded women who enjoy the fun and friendship of working together on fundraising events and serving the community. We are an active club belonging to a thriving national and international organisation for women and new members are always welcome.
We meet at Sonning Golf Club on the third Thursday of every month.
