During August we enjoyed two very good meetings.
We began by welcoming our speaker Jane Sampson, who in 2001 whilst working for a computer company, won a trip to go to Star City in Russia to experience what it was like to be a cosmonaut.
She told us of preparations that had to be made which included being fitted for a flight suit. When arriving in Moscow she was taken to Space City and then to the space centre.
Here she boarded an old plane with no seats and given parachute training before the aircraft took off followed by her experiencing lunar walking and zero gravity.
Her talk was followed by a film showing her floating around the inside of the aircraft whilst experiencing the above.
At the next meeting our speaker was Toni Kent who is a writer, speaker and comedian.
She read to us poems from the book she had written about her experiences in the kitchen, being a mother, fashion and women’s experiences in general.
This month the club is holding a Table Top Sale in Woodley precinct on Friday 13th September.
This will be followed on the 17th September with a visit to Leeds Castle where they are holding the Festival of Flowers to celebrate 900 years of the castle.
Plans are also well underway for our Christmas Party to be held at Sonning Golf Club and a short break to Warners in Alverston next May, so lots to look forward to.
New members are welcome and you can come to two meetings as a visitor £3. per meeting before you decide whether you would like to join this club.
Our next meeting will be held on Monday 16th September.
