Home-Start Wokingham District held its AGM on Wednesday, July 17, during which it showcased and celebrated the work of its volunteers, the lifeblood of the charity.
Home-Start Wokingham District, which is based at The Estate Management College at Shinfield Grange, support vulnerable families with children under five across the Wokingham Borough.
The meeting was attended by the Mayor of Wokingham Town, Councillor Lynn Forbes, the Deputy Mayor of Wokingham Borough, Councillor Malcolm Richards and the Mayor of Woodley Town, Councillor Kay Gilder, as well as representatives from Wokingham Borough Council, The Wokingham Lions, The Health team, The Early Years Team, Bookstart, and a number of other organisations, donors and other supporters.
During the meeting, those present heard three volunteers speak about their work both with families and also the role of a volunteer Trustee.
Alongside the usual business of the AGM, volunteers who have provided long service were recognised and there was a lively discussion about the work of the charity and how it contributes to the wider support offered to families across Wokingham Borough and the importance of linking in with and signposting to other organisations with specialist skills and expertise.
Before and after the formal meeting there was an opportunity for networking with staff and volunteers being able to share their experiences with all those who attended and further answer questions and discuss challenges.
