When Wokingham District Veteran Tree Association (WDVTA ) held their AGM recently at St Paul’s Parish Rooms in Wokingham, they were very pleased to welcoAdd Newme the newly appointed Chief Executive of the Tree Council.
Sara Lom was accompanied by Jon Stokes Director of Programs and they both gave fascinating talks.
They covered issues such as the need for areas to have an effective local tree strategy, the planting of appropriate species of new street trees and the vital requirement for good aftercare.
Ideas such as tree walks for good health and wellbeing were discussed, doctors in the Epping Forest area have been arranging these with noticeable beneficial outcomes.
The visitors recorded short clips with several of the local tree wardens for use at future events.
Jon Stokes remarked on the beautiful tree-lined roads, the Green Routes, all around Wokingham and how these are far less common now countrywide, a reminder to all to protect what we are lucky enough to have in our borough.
