TWO groups of music lovers are teaming up to hold a special concert later this month, aimed at celebrating a popular contemporary artist.
Jazz In Reading and Bracknell Jazz will host an evening with Mark Lockheart at South Hill Park to showcase tracks from his new suite, Days On Earth.
A six-movement piece of work, it was first performed live in January and combine’s Mark’s jazz ensemble with a string quartet.
The line-up comprises Mark Lockheart and Alice Leggett on saxophone, Laura Jurd on trumpet, Liam Noble on piano, John Parricelli on guitar, Tom Herbert on bass and Seb Rochford on drums. Also joining them will be flautist Roland Sutherland, Jim Rattigan on the French-horn and a string section led by Jackie Shave.
MOJO magazine said that Days On Earth was a ‘cinematically compelling’ suite, while John Fordham in The Guardian said: “Lockheart’s laconically Wayne Shorter-ish sax sound and influences including Duke Ellington, Gil Evans and Burt Bacharach, as well as his Loose Tubes and Polar Bear alumni …”
The concert takes place on Friday, September 27. Tickets cost £23 or £10 for students.
