JOE Dimmock has 300 reasons for getting on his bike.
That’s how many miles he will cover on his latest charity cycle.
On Monday, Joe, 25, sets off from Lands End to cycle to his home in Eversley.
He hopes to raise £5,000 for the Lucy Rayner Foundation to support and raise awareness of mental health issues among young people.
“The toughest part will be the first 100 miles out of Cornwall which is very hilly,” he said.
“But I have a wonderful support team who have mapped out the route and will be with me all the way. I hope to raise over the £5,000 target I have set myself.”
Joe, who works in Wokingham, said he was drawn to the charity after hearing about the work it did to with young people.
“Lucy took her life through depression at the age of 22. This was unforeseen by any member of her family and was not diagnosed by her GP
“The aim of the Foundation is to raise awareness of mental health and depression in young adults and recognise the signs and symptoms before it’s too late. Together we can help to save lives.”
Joe has already completed a cycle of over 500 miles from Glasgow to Eversley in aid of cancer research and hopes one day to do the ultimate challenge from Lands End to John O’Groats,
“I feel more confident doing this latest run after the Glasgow one where the weather was really bad.
“I’ll be doing around 50 to 60 miles a day. It will be tough but I’m looking forward to it.”
He hopes to arrive in Eversley around noon Saturday, April 13 at The Chequers.
