Reading manager Jose Gomes insisted that he was responsible for the result after Reading were defeated by Charlton Athletic at the Madejski Stadium.
Reading suffered their third league defeat of the season as they drop to 16th in the Championship.
On the first half…
“I am really disappointed because I was expecting to win this game. We prepared for this game very well. They players showed in the first half the pan was very good, the way they played in the previous games.
We really blocked their offensive dynamic, just one mistake to open the right channel to them but Rafael stopped. I the first half we could have scored, we created clear goal chances that we missed.”
Second half goals from Jonathan Leko and Lyle Taylor ended Reading’s run of three games without defeat after they had beaten Cardiff City, Huddersfield Town and picked up a point away at West Bromwich Albion.
The second half…
“In the second half after their goal, the team looked like they were scared. Its difficult to score against us. That’s why I changed my wing backs with more offensive players, but it wasn’t enough, the energy that they brought they tried.
It was a step back, there were a lot of things I didn’t like today but the only one responsible for the result is me.”
International break…
” We must use this space to improve things, but it isn’t good to stay so many days without a game. Everybody wants to get a good result before the international break.
We tried but we must give more to get good results because in this league it is very tough. Even if you relax for one second, any team can destroy any team in this league.
We need to find consistency, todays game showed us this. First half very good, we created opportunities. Second half was a different thing.”
Attacking substitutions…
“This is the magic thing in football, if you play PlayStation and change the players and lose you can repeat the game but here you cant. I don’t regret the changes, they gave positive things to the game, Yakou and Boye.
Also Yiadom and Omar ran a lot, so the idea was to refresh the team. I wanted to show to my players the idea to go to the goal. It was a strange penalty, the number 10 caught Moore’s shirt, but I don’t want to talk about the referee.
I decided with three centre backs and a holding midfielder, I think its enough to stop the counter attack. We must take the responsibility like I’m taking now.
No excuses, even the way we start I was expecting five points more.”
Miazga and Blackett injury update…
“We will see, we will get an update from the medical department on Monday, Blackett and Miazga are recovering well. It is not a big injury.”
Tom McIntyre debut…
“He did well. Before the game he had a small health problem, the medical department checked him and he refused to stay out. He wanted to play, he’s a tough boy.”
The Royals face Middlesbrough away from home commencing the end of the international break before hosting Blackburn Rovers in their next fixture at the Madejski Stadium.
