Woodley United returned from Hillingdon Borough with their second win in three league outings and third away victory of the season.
In doing so, they had to take the lead three times in a seven goal thriller.
The hosts started spritely creating two chances before Ben Anderson gave Woodley the lead in the fourth minute with their first attack of the game.
Midfielder Pedro Monterio passed the ball to Rafa Brandao on the left wing whose run and low pass found Anderson to fire past Norbet Kesse-Adu in the home goal.
This was quickly followed by two United corners before Ethan Giles was called upon to punch the ball clear in the visitors’ goal as the match was played end to end.
The 10th minute saw Woodley shouts for a penalty due to hand ball turned away by the referee.
Just three minutes later, Hillingdon levelled when a long cross from their left found the unmarked Jade McRea who headed pass Giles from what looked like an offside position.
The game continued to be an open one with Kesse-Adu saved well from Caleb Lucas, Borough headed over Woodley’s cross bar and the home team had a goal disallowed for offside.
On a heavy pitch, it was unsurprising that the game’s tempo decreased with the final two chances of the half falling to Hillingdon in stoppage time as Bjarte Houland’s shot was blocked and in the ensuing goal mouth scramble the hosts were adjudged offside.
The second half saw Woodley have to defend two corners from the restart before a Jordan Goddard free kick was deftly headed across goal and into the far side netting to restore the visitors’ lead five minutes into the half.
A minute later, Lucas’ low cross was turned into his own net by a defender to give Woodley a two goal lead.
Hillingdon responded strongly with goals through Mohammed Jahzi.
His first was a well taken volley from close range and the second a one on one with Giles.
Four minutes later United were back in the lead when Kesse-Adu parried Ciaran Carolan’s shot and Anderson poked the ball into an unguarded net from six yards.
Carolan was denied by Kesse-Adu in the eightieth minute with sub Jerry Foumboua seeing an effort deflected for a corner.
With the game entering the fifth minute of stoppage time Foumboua found himself free of the home defence, who were pushing for an equaliser, but the forward was unable to trouble the home keeper.
This was the last of the action with full time following shortly afterwards with Woodley taking a hard earned win.
