THAMES Valley Kings had reason to celebrate at the Wheelchair Basketball Awards as Liam Barker won the Rising Star award.
Barker won the Junior Player of the Year award at the Richard Langhorn Trust 2019 Wheelchair Basketball Awards at the third time of asking having been nominated for the award twice previously.
The Young Kings lion adds the award to his trophy collection after another excellent season as captain of the league winning Division Two South team. His continuous hard work on and off the court has also been noticed as he was invited to the Under 22’s GB men’s trials earlier this year.
Liam was unable to collect the award on the night due to regional training commitments however was invited to collect the award during Great Britain Men’s friendly tournament against Canada where he got to meet the players from both nations, including his idol Terry Bywayter and Canadian legend Patrick Anderson.
Meanwhile, Kings Alumni Kayla Bell is celebrating alongside her GB women’s teammates after they finished Silver medallists in the European Championships in Rotterdam, the highest place finish for any GB women’s team in that competition.
