SAM TWOMEY says it is a dream to sign for the club he supported as a child.
Second-row Twomey, 26, arrives from Harlequins having spent his youth as a season ticket holder at the Madejski Stadium for six years.
And he says it is a special feeling.
“I’m really pleased to get it sorted and come to such a good club as London Irish, such a prestigious club with such good history,” said Twomey.
“I just want to get stuck into work and take the challenges of the season.
“It’s something I’ve always dreamed of, playing for your childhood club, the team you support growing up is always a sportsman’s dream.
“I’m really pleased and proud to finally put on a London Irish badge.”
Twomey has spent his whole professional career with Quins, playing over 50 times for the first team.
But he was prepared to take the step into the Championship with the Exiles and believes a memorable season is on the cards.
“The facilities are so, so impressive as is the squad and the staff here as well,” he said.
“I think everyone wants to work in the right direction and is looking to achieve the same goals so I’m looking forward to being part of it.
“Every conversation I have with Declan (Kidney, technical director) he impresses me even more.
“I’m really enjoying his vision of what he wants to do with the club and I think everyone has bought into what he’s trying to bring and what he’s trying to provide.
“I think is everyone buys in then we can have a successful year.”
