A LORD helped launch the Liberal Democrats’ bid to snatch the Wokingham parliamentary seat.
Lord Marks, the party’s spokesman for justice visited the borough on Saturday, May 6, to give a speech that touched on a host of subjects including Brexit, the NHS and lack of fair school funding in Wokingham.
Labour came second to the Conservatives in the 2015 General Election, but the Lib Dems feel they could triumph on June 8.
The party’s local candidate is Clive Jones, who said: “We are the only party that has a chance of beating the Tories here in Wokingham.
“The Conservatives have been hopelessly split by Brexit. John Redwood wants a Hard Brexit contrary to the wishes of many of his colleagues locally and 57% of the people in Wokingham that he is supposed to represent.
“Many residents feel Mr Redwood is totally ignoring them, especially young people who are really disappointed that the Conservatives have joined with UKIP to force a Hard Brexit on the country, denying them the future and opportunities they want.
“It is clear that many local residents share our desire to replace Mr Redwood and the very unpopular local Conservatives with elected representatives who will put them first.”
Candidates standing in Wokingham are: Andy Croy, Labour; Clive Jones, Liberal Democrats; John Redwood, Conservatives and Russell Seymour, Green Party.
