Although many of us are staying at home due to the snowy weather and icy roads, there is some good news this morning for those using the M4 – the section between junctions 12 and 13 has reopened early this morning.
Highways England said that as a result of the work going smoothly, they were able to get the road operational again from 7.10am today (Sunday, December 10).
It had been due to reopen at 5am on Monday morning.
The work between the Theale and Chieveley junctions has been to allow refurbishment of three that carry the M4 over the B4009 Hampstead Norreys Road, Brocks Lane and Burnt Hill Road near Hermitage in West Berkshire.
In a statement, Highways England project sponsor Andrew Winson said: “I am pleased to advise that both carriageways on the M4 between junctions 12 and 13 have opened ahead of schedule. I would like to thank all road users and people living near the bridges or the diversion routes for their patience while we carried out this important work.”
Despite the motorway re-opening, drivers are advised to plan their journeys carefully due to the severe weather, and only travel if absolutely necessary.
