TO MARK its 75th anniversary, Maiden Erlegh Bowls Club welcomed a team from Bowls England on Sunday.
The day of celebration including a cake cutting ceremony and enjoying a friendly game together.
It was a tight match for the first half, with MEBC holding their own, but the Bowls England team soon started to learn the green and gained the upper hand.
By the end of the game, MEBC lost the overall match 139-103 shots, but still did manage to win on two of the six rinks.
MEBC skips were Mike Fraser, Keith Hawkins (winning skips) and Robin Rapley, Guy O’Connor, Frank Parkinson and Mary Parkinson. The match was sponsored by The Head Partnership.
14th May
KL match vs Twyford, which MEBC played at home, saw a great result for MEBC winning all of the 14 points available. Overall shots were 95 -56.
Rinks were 26 -13, 25 – 16, 22 -16 and 22 – 11 and skips Frank Parkinson, Robin Rapley Keith Hawkins and Mike Fraser respectively.
Also on the 14th May MEBC ladies travelled away to play a friendly against Caversham. It was a closely fought match, but with Pam Dunn as captain they were able to secure a win 46-40. Individual rinks scores of 17-13, 11-14 and 18-13 showing just how finely balanced the teams were.
16th May
KLV-B vs Wargrave. MEBC played at home. A tough match which saw MEBC lose on two rinks (15 – 25, 16 – 17), but manage to secure sufficient points on the third rink (21 – 8) to give MEBC the overall match 52 -50 and pick up 6 points to Wargrave’s 4. Skips were Frank Parkinson, Keith Boulter and Clive Thrower respectively.
Also on the 16th was a ladies TVLL League game. MEBC travelling away to Bracknell. Home advantage shone through and despite best efforts MEBC were only able to win on one rink, and picked just 2 of the 10 points. Final overall score was 47-60. Rinks scores were 9-15, 22-10, 16-35. The skips were Anne Wilby, Jas Edwards, and Cathy Edwards respectively.
17th May
KLV-C league. MEBC C team this time travelled to Crowthorne. A successful visit which saw MEBC win on 2 of the 3 rinks (14-22, 21-10, 20-15) for an overall 55-47 and eight of the 10 points available. Skips were Paul Dieppe, Roy Clarke and Ray Pontet respectively.
17th May
MEBC A team were also playing on the 17th. The team travelled down the road to play Suttons B. MEBC won on two rinks (25-8, 25-12), but lost on the third rink (12-18). This gave a comfortable win for MEBC with an overall score of 62- 38, and MEBC picking up eight of the 10 points available. Skips were Guy O’Connor, Robin Rapley and Mike Fraser respectively.
