A CELEBRATION of one of Wokingham town’s most unique features will take place next weekend – Small Business Saturday.
The event will see a special seasonal atmosphere take over the newly refurbished town centre, culminating in the launch of this year’s Living Advent Calendar.
Wokingham Town Council, in association with local shops, will be marking the event, on December 1, in style.
The Saturday market will be boosted by additional stall holders selling street food, snacks, cakes, mulled wine and more.
There will be street entertainment too including Dr G’s Big Band in the morning and a cappella group The Barberettes in the afternoon and children will enjoy a visiting from the Balloon Modelling Elf at lunchtime.
The Town Council said that Small Business Saturday is a national campaign designed to get people supporting their local Independent Businesses and making an effort to shop local.
A spokesperson said: “Shop local isn’t just a hashtag or phrase… if local people don’t value and support their local businesses then nobody else will.
“We all stay in or move to Wokingham because we have a thriving town centre. Let’s keep it this way. Come on in and explore the many retailers and boutiques throughout the town who are stocked to the brim with fantastic gifts and stocking fillers for all the family.
“By shopping locally you can pick up wonderful gifts that are really different from those available on the High Street, as local retailers go that extra mile to stock unique items or bring smaller brand names together under one roof so you have the choice, knowledgeable staff and personal service that actually makes a difference.”
And Wokingham Town Mayor, Cllr Julian McGhee Sumner, will announce the winner of a Christmas window contest at 4pm, at the same time the first door will be opened in this year’s Wokingham Living Advent Calendar in the Town Hall.
