THE MAN who died while in custody at Loddon Valley Police Station has been named.
Leroy Junior Medford, 43, died on Sunday, April 2 following his arrest and detention in custody at Loddon Valley Police Station in Rushey Way, Lower Earley.
The case has been referred to the Independent Police Complaints Commission (IPCC) who are investigating the circumstances surrounding MR Medford’s death.
A post-mortem, which was carried out on Monday, April 3, proved to be inconclusive, and the IPCC are awaiting the results of further tests, which will then be passed on to the coroner.
Associate Commissioner Guido Liguori said: “Our independent investigation is underway and making good progress. My sympathies remain with Mr Medford’s family and friends and all those affected, and they can be assured that we are undertaking a thorough examination of the circumstances of this incident.
“This will include looking at the care given to Mr Medford while he was in custody, the nature of any risk assessments carried out and whether all relevant policies and procedures were followed during his arrest and detention.”
