A NEW music festival will be coming to Hurst after it was granted permission to go ahead.
Marvellous, a family-orientated festival that features tribute bands such as Queen and Coldplay, will take place in Dinton Pastures on Saturday, July 23 and Sunday, July 24.
Local residents had expressed their concerns about the festival at a special meeting held at Wokingham Borough Council last Tuesday, but the council has decided to grant Marvellous a licence.
The Licensing and Appeals (Hearings) Sub-Committee made two conditions its decision to grant the go-ahead, one relates to conditions proposed by Environmental Health and the other is that a contact number for festival organisers should be provided to Hurst Parish Council seven days before the festival itself.
At the meeting last week, the festival’s organisers defended their plans.
Festival director Steve Stanton said last week: All of the responsible bodies such as Police, Fire, Environmental Health, Highways etc were fully satisfied with our Risk Assessment, H&S documentation and Event Plan for the Marvellous Festival to the extent that they made no representations against the licence being granted.
“Likewise, the licensing team were happy that we fulfilled all of the obligations and conditions to the application. I have nothing further to add except that we’re looking forward to bringing this wonderful family event to Dinton Pastures next month.”
Cllr Angus Ross, executive member for environment, said last week: “The four licensing objectives considered were: the prevention of crime and disorder; public safety; the prevention of public nuisance and the protection of children from harm.”
