Michael Hector has ended speculation over his future by signing a new three-year contract with Reading.
Hector, 22, enjoyed a breakthrough season with Royals last campaign having put pen to paper on a new deal just last summer and he has now been rewarded for his fine form at Madejski Stadium.
The Jamaican centre-back has received rave reviews in recent weeks, including a Wembley handshake from Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger, but Royals fans can now look forward to seeing Hector in action until 2018.
Hector, who made 49 appearances last season and was named in the top three of Reading’s Player of the Season vote, told the club’s website: “It’s a really positive step for me to sign another deal at Reading and to know you’re wanted by the manager and the club, it’s a great feeling.
“This is a proud moment for me and my family.”
Manager Steve Clarke, added: “Since I came to the club in December 2014, Michael’s performances have improved almost from game to game. For a young defender to show such consistency is great to see.
“However it was his work day in, day out on the training ground that impressed me the most and has shown me that Michael can have a big future in the game. This contract is a reward for the improvement shown and I’m looking forward to working with Michael in the coming season when, hopefully, he will continue on the same path.”
Hector is set to jet off to Chile next week as he bids to make his Jamaica debut in this summer’s Copa America.
