WE MUST talk up the town. That was the message from the executive member for regeneration.
Cllr Stuart Munro made the comments when replying to a question from Cllr Imogen Shepherd-DuBey about the town centre works at a meeting of Wokingham Borough Council’s Executive on Thursday, October 26.
She queried the number of retailers leaving the town, the introduction of traffic wardens and the reduction in footfall and revenue for retailers, adding: “What is Wokingham Borough Council doing to support our remaining retailers, particularly the smaller independent ones?”
Cllr Munro talked about the support the council was offering retailers before saying: “I would personally urge all local members and other to start talking the town up: the town has great shops, cafes, pubs and restaurants and is very much open for business”.
