THE NEW season of the Nettlebed Folk Club gets underway from Monday with a visit from The Furrow Collective.
Described by Songlines magazine as “One of the most refreshing interpreters of traditional song in the UK”, they have released three albums and won Best Band at the 2017 BBC Radio 2 Folk Awards.
Formed six years ago, they are an English/Scottish band consisting of four distinctive and talented performers: Lucy Farrell (viola, voice and saw), Rachel Newton (harp, fiddle, voice), Emily Portman (banjo, concertina, voice) and Alasdair Roberts (guitars, voice). They say they were drawn together by a shared love of traditional song and balladry of England, Scotland and beyond and an open, intuitive approach to collaboration.
Then on Monday, September 16, Johnny Coppin will team up with Phil Beer from Show of Hands. The pair performed many gigs together in the late 70s and 80s including Glastonbury and tours of Italy, Germany and Holland.
Johnny has recorded over 12 albums – and Phil played on 10 of them.
Also appearing in September is Irish Band, Dervish on the 23rd and Home Service, including John Tams, on the 30th.
Each evening’s music starts at 8pm and takes place in the Village Club in Nettlebed’s High Street.
